Congratulations to Sebastian Negri (Churchill '12) who has been selected for the Italy u20 squad who will compete in the World Trophy in Chile. Sebastian played in the 1st XV in 2011 and 2012.  We wish him well at the tournament in Chile.

The recent appointment of Judge Nigel Willis to the Supreme Court of Appeal represents another milestone in Hilton’s distinguished record of service to the South African Judiciary.  Nigel Willis (Hilton 1970) now joins Eric Leach (Hilton 1969) on the SCA, which is the apex court in South Africa in all but constitutional matters.  Only a handful of schools in South Africa will have similar records of two judges serving concurrently on the Supreme Court of Appeal, and it may well be that Hilton is the only school to have produced four Appeal Court judges:  Trollip, Milne, Leach and Willis.

On Wednesday 30th January, Hilton College welcomed Old Hiltonian Dylan Youens to speak at the launch of the book Boys of Hilton. Dylan's story “Determination” appears in the book.

Rob Bircher, an Old Hiltonian (1964 – 1969), who compiled the book, says this in his introduction: "Values shape what we believe and ultimately who we become and what we offer the world. The book Boys of Hilton is for you as a Hiltonian, a Hilton parent, a member of staff or as an Old boy to read and be inspired by 13 very unique Hilton stories. You will meet heroic, outstanding, humble and courageous Hilton boys between these pages."

Retired Chief Justice of South Africa Arthur Chaskalson ('45 -'48 Churchill) who died on Saturday (1 December) matriculated from Hilton in 1948. Ironically that was the same year that the Apartheid Regime, whose laws he was to spend most of his professional life fighting against, came into power.  He graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in 1954 with a B. Comm LLB.  The school flag is currently at half-mast in recognition of this great Hiltonian.
