Today I had to wake up early so that I could get all my stuff together for cricket today. We were playing away against Clifton College, Durban. When I had packed I moved off to early breakfast, which was, as traditionally on a Saturday, fried eggs. Early breakfast starts at 6.30am and class starts half an hour later, so there was more than enough time to eat. I had a bowl of cereal because it was far too early for eggs!

Matrics had Maths this morning – welcome to the weekend – but the lesson seemed to go by fairly quickly and soon I was on the bus on the way to Durban. Unfortunately there was a traffic jam on the highway and so we were delayed slightly, but we got there in the end. As we arrived, however, I realized that I had forgotten, in my half-sleeping stupor, to pack warming up kit. When we warm up we wear black shorts and a Hilton College T-Shirt, but I had neither. So I ended up having to wear my cricket longs and shirt while the others all wore shorts. Needless to say I kept my head down, but was well aware of the looks and sniggers that I was on the receiving end of!

The game, however, went decidedly better, and I was pleased with both mine and the team’s performance. We managed to restrict Clifton to 153/9 after 45 overs, and I picked up 1 wicket for 12 runs in 6 overs.

and defend on a way to a great 74*

Two of our batsmen did really well. Garth Gerber scored an excellent 74* while Craig Saunders just lost out on his milestone after reaching a well-played 49. We reached their total in about 35 overs with seven wickets in hand, and hence we won by seven wickets. I wasn’t going on leave this weekend so I got back onto the bus and waited for our departure. I never really enjoy long bus trips back to school from Durban after a long day in the field, but I managed to slip in a little power nap on the way home.

Boys on a Saturday night are allowed to order pizzas from Pizza Perfect or Leonardo’s – the two delivering pizza places in the area. Boys enjoy this privilege every once in a while and many take advantage of it weekend after weekend. After the first movie juniors go to bed while seniors are allowed to watch the second movie before retiring to bed for the day. I was rather tired so I got an early night.
