Newboys' Campover

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.”

Lou Holtz

Dear McKenzie Parents

It has been a busy, hot and wet start to the year. We have had tremendous rains which has not really helped our cricket selections for our new boys. The boys are slowly getting back into routine and are looking to the challenges and fun which lies ahead.

Congratulations to the following boys on their appointments at the first assembly of the year and I hope they enjoy the challenges which their positions bring:

- Chairman of the Catholic Society : Tyler Bairstow
- Chairman of the Debating Society: David Shorten

Also at the assembly, it was also very pleasing to see five of our matrics receive their Academic Ties, for their performance in the November Examinations. Well done to Andrew Giliam, Daniel Nambassi, Ragu Sangrapillai, David Shorten and Matthew van Asche. This is a fine achievement and will hopefully inspire other boys to work hard and reach their potential in their academic work.

Well done on achieving your Academic Tie - Daniel Nambassi, Andrew Giliam, Ragu Sangrapillai, David Shorten and Matt van ASche

I have just returned from the valley where our new boys are having their camp-out. They left at 2.30pm this afternoon and return on Friday morning for the start of school. There was a wonderful atmosphere and I was pleased to see them relaxing and getting to know their matrics, as well as one another, around the camp fire. I can already see that they are turning into fine young Hiltonians who will have the same pride and passion for this great school that the other boys experience. My thanks to Andrew Giliam, Grant Tromp, Matthew van Asche and David Shorten for taking them down to the camp site and spending the night with them. David Shorten, our matric estate rep, took the boys for a walk during the afternoon, and they visited the Gwen’s waterfalls and the Henley cave. On driving down with Mr McMichael at 6pm, we saw a lot of game, and the estate is looking in superb condition after all the rain. How many boys have the opportunity of camping-over in their own game reserve on the door step of their school? (pictures below)

Regards

Paul
