Dear Parents
Term one has been a very busy yet productive term. The Lucas boys have
been busy with summer sports and Interhouse activities. To win the Gala
was a fantastic achievement and brilliant performances have brought home
the silverware In other inter house activities the show determination
and spirit was fantastic. The activities that our boys take part in are
too many to cover in a letter but I believe Nii Dzani has kept you up to
date weekly on the Lucas Web site.
I believe that our priority is to learn and now that term reports have
been read received, you have taken the time to analyze them with your
son and set attainable. I encourage you to follow up on any queries,
problems you may have with your sons Tutor at the start of the term.
Please feel free to contact me as well if you have any queries. I
suggest the best way to do this is via e-mail as this will be a ‘safe’
and convenient way to leave a message. Thank you to parents for your
support and kinds words over the year to date. It is great to receive
positive input.
The Matrics led by Courtney Allen have flourished and if they continue
just doing their portfolios and duties well and taking one day at a
time, I am sure they will “have no regrets or excuses” (2008 House
Motto) and they will cherish and look back on the a year.
To our new boys and parents, you have completed 1st of the 20 terms of
your Hilton career! I believe the chaps have done well and settled .They
have returned more relaxed and feeling part of this fine school.
I hope you have had a wonderful Easter holiday and have enjoyed having
your son’s home. The batteries are recharged in time for the most
exciting term of the year – winter sports. The school in my opinion
comes alive and I look forward to seeing you all this term.
An ongoing challenge I continually have to deal with, regardless of the
age of the boy, is the importance of looking after their possessions and
the need to lock their valuables away and not to leave them ‘lying’
around as they seem to be in a habit of doing. In Lucas the boys are
lucky to have a big area under their beds to lock up their golf clubs,
guitars or anything of value. There is a bike room for the storage of
bikes where a boy gets a code for access of the room which is always
monitored. The sad reality is we need to safe guard our possessions!.
I would also like to thank all those parents who passed on their good
wishes at the end of 2007 and I am always so amazed at the unbelievable
generosity shown to me and my family. I appreciate the support from
parents and I am very grateful for it. I was touched by all the leaver’s
letters written to me - I am so privileged to have had such fine men to
look after.
As one leaver said “may the force be with you” or a favourite phrase
“keep living the dream” .
Regards,
Tony Richter
