Housemaster's Report

Dear Parents
It
is hard to believe that the first term has come to an end. The first
term is never an easy one as boys have to settle in to their new
environment and the Form 5’s get used to their new role as leaders in
the House.
Ryan Grove, the Head of House, and Cameron Jeffery and Ryall Naidoo need
to be complimented on their efforts at integrating the Form 1’s. The
Form 1’s have all been inducted as Hiltonians at a recent ceremony.
Academically, twenty three boys achieved Commendation in the last Mark
and Industry Order and there are indications that this number will
increase next term.
This has been a rather busy term in terms of inter-house activities and
the boys have acquitted themselves well. We were placed third in the
Music and Cricket competitions, fourth in the Swimming Gala and second
in the Water Polo. Our senior Cross Country runners achieved fourth
place in both the A and B races.
As with any institution, everything is not always sunshine and roses.
Theft of money in the House has been somewhat of a problem. Boys are
often irresponsible and leave large amounts of money in unlocked lockers
or a wallet that has been hidden under clothing. They have been reminded
on numerous occasions to hand in money to the House Manger or myself and
then draw as necessary and there is really no excuse for keeping large
sums of money in lockers.
Could I ask parents to ensure that boys return with suitable haircuts at
the start of term? When a boy returns not having had a haircut, which
would last until half-term, his term is off to a poor start. A
hairdresser is usually brought up from Hilton on an afternoon and a boy
invariably misses part of his sport practice.
I trust that you will enjoy the time with your son during this break and
look forward to his safe return next term.
Regards
Mike Werth
