CHURCHILL HOUSE
NEWSLETTER No. 03
A Meaningful Start to the Second Term
The boy’s of Churchill have been hard at work collecting and packaging
Easter Eggs, sweets and the like for the Valley community. This
collection culminated, on Sunday, in a fun and enjoyable day for the
children that attend the school in our valley. This event has become a
sought-after day for the children, and in a small way the boys of Churchill
have been able to make an impact on the life of someone less fortunate than
themselves. This event is our main charity drive and we were able to hire
jumping castles, purchase face paints, hire a clown suit and provide the
children with lunch and an ample supply of sweets. This has been
possible primarily by your generosity and the fun that these children
enjoyed, whether it was playing soccer, jumping on the castles,
slip-and-sliding, taking part in a dance competition, or just
interacting with our boys, made the whole event a worthwhile experience.
From my side, I would like to say a big thank you to all those that
helped make this another memorable occasion.
We were fortunate to be able to get the Valley fun day in before the
onset of some rather inclement weather and if this is any indication of
the winter ahead I think we are in for a cold one. Please remember to
throw a jacket into the back of the car when you come up for Saturday
sport even if all is clear when you leave home. I have no doubt that
those that were able to attend on Saturday had an enjoyable day and it
was certainly a very successful day for us. Next weekend the matric boys
will be having their Matric Dance, on Saturday evening, and the planning
for this is well underway. They have been informed of their dress
requirements and the arrangements for the weekend. I would just like to
confirm that if a Matric is going out for the day on Sunday that a Leave
request be sent in that is signed by the parents and that travel
arrangements have been sorted out properly.
Then to all parents the arrangements for the weekend of 3 May, that is
the Hilton/MHS weekend, are as follows: The boys are entitled to a free
Leave and are encouraged to take Leave, on this weekend, at the
conclusion of the 1st XV game. There is often a great deal of excitement
around this traditional fixture and I know the boys look forward to it
with great anticipation. There will be some sanctions around gate times
for Friday evening and we will not be granting supper leaves on the
Friday. This is an important time for the boys to enjoy the atmosphere
and build up to what is a fantastic occasion and we want them to be able
to enjoy this together. Although given as a free Leave, could I request
that you still complete a Leave Form in the usual manner. All this will
be conveyed to the boys and they will no doubt remind you of this closer
to the time.
Please diarise Sunday, 8 June as the Churchill House Family Day. It
would be great to have as many parents and families together on this day
spending some time with your boys and getting to meet the parents of his
friends. The specific arrangements for the day will be sent out to all
closer to the time.
With this much on the calendar I am sure that time is going to fly and
hopefully your boys will be kept busy and involved. From a sports
perspective I encouraged them, at our last House Prayers, to work hard
at practises and during matches so as to give themselves the best chance
when it came to team selections. Hopefully this will be their philosophy
in all that they attempt during the course of the term.
