Eventually we wake up and the sun is
shining. At last I am able to do some cycling this morning.
Each Wednesday morning at 7.25 am each Tutor meets with their
tutees. I decide to treat my boys by having coffee and biscuits.
There is a fair amount of banter and it is a good time for juniors
and seniors to mix.

In McKenzie, we have a Chairman of the Common Room Committee. The
committee consists of the Housemaster, Assistant Housemaster, House
Manager, Head of House and a representative from each year group. It
normally meets twice a term but this is the responsibility of the
matric in charge of this portfolio to set up the meeting. The
Chairman (a Form V portfolio) draws up an agenda after asking the
dormitory representatives for items and we discuss matters related
to the House. The Chairman conducts the meeting and it is a good
exercise for a senior boy to chair a committee. It is a good
opportunity for boys to learn how a committee operates and part of
the representatives’ task is to report back to their dormitory
colleagues, after the meeting. It also allows me to find out about
logistical problems in the House with a smaller group. The boys come
up with good ideas which we try and implement where we can.
My U 14 A team have a good cricket practice in the Etheridge nets. I
thoroughly enjoyed coaching the 1st XI but I do get great pleasure
in teaching these younger players as they are so keen and one can
still mould them technically. We are amazed to be practising in the
grass nets, it is alike a new experience particularly since this is
only the second time we have practised this term!
Just before prep I go along to the MacGillivray Prep room (Form I)
and I am pleased to see new boys playing table tennis with some
matrics.
While replying to a few e-mails during prep I receive an e-mail from
Ryan Kaiser who is on exchange to Salem Schule in Germany. His half
term lasts 3 weeks and his parents are joining him in Germany and
doing some travelling Europe. I am sure our boys would love
half-term to last for 3 weeks.
Devan pops in to talk about a House matter and during 2nd prep Tony
Shuttleworth holds his weekly Bible study which is always well
attended.
I pop over to see Brad Anderson, the new Churchill Housemaster, to
have a chat. It is never easy starting as a Housemaster and we sit
over a cup of coffee and discuss various matters. While at Churchill
we have a vicious lightning storm but fortunately it does not knock
the lights out on the campus.
