Another cloudy and what appears is
going to be a wet day. Our fire alarm goes of at 6.15 am as a result
of Mr Odendaal’s candles on his birthday cake setting the alarm off.
Each Tuesday morning we have House Prayers at 7.25am.

House Prayers in the Common Room
This morning two Form
III’s have a short play scene followed by some words about
forgiveness which is accompanied by a Bible reading and a prayer.
Devan Kerr gives some feedback from the Heads of Houses meeting
which takes place each Sunday. I inform the House of some school
matters and our achievers this week are Grant Tromp who had bowling
figures of 3/7 for the U 16 C XI and Tim van Asche who scored 51
runs for the 2nd XI.
I teach the first two periods and then attend a Servant Leadership
Conference Committee meeting.

Meeting in Headmasters's office
All seems to be on
track for the conference and the number of delegates for both the
Business and Educational portions of the conference is looking good.
This conference is taking place at the end of the term and there are
some international speakers who will be attending.
Every Tuesday the Housemasters gather with the Headmaster in the
Headmaster’s Dining Room for lunch.

It is not a business
meeting but rather a get together and a support session for each
other. On occasion, it is light hearted and my colleagues have a
chuckle when I tell them about our fire alarm going off this
morning.
At 2pm I have a Management Committee meeting. I have been appointed
at the beginning of the year to this committee as the Housemasters’
representative.

HM's office
I am looking forward
to sitting on this committee and to be involved at this sort of
level. It will be good experience as well as having some input.
After discussing various school issues the meeting finishes at
5.15pm.
As I get home I am greeted by a new boy who needs to talk to me. He
really just wants to chat as it has been his afternoon off and he
needs some reassurance about various things.
At 8pm the Form II’s
come to my House for hot chocolate and cake. I enjoy having this
sort of function at my house as it is very relaxed and the boys talk
freely. They thoroughly enjoy it as they miss some prep!

At 9 pm I go up and
sit on the “main table” in the house. It is a good place to see boys
as well as have a general chat. I go into the Form I “lights out”
for a short while to see what is happening. I remind them of the
procedure for booking buses for half-term and leave their matrics to
carry on with their notices.
At 10.30pm the matric on duty confirms that everybody in the House
is in bed and all is locked up. Another day has gone by and I hope
to wake up to some sunshine tomorrow.
