The Admissions
Process
Please feel free to explore our
prospectus. If
you want to be part of our school family and apply to come to Hilton
College, the first step is to complete and submit an
Online Inquiry Form. An
Application Form will be posted once the inquiry has been received
and the Application Fee of R300-00 has been paid. When this has
been received your name will be entered in the database and your family
will be placed on the mailing list.
In addition to the completed Application Form each pupil is required to
sit an Entrance Test, written in March of the year preceding
admission. Because we usually fill the school with first-round
applicants, prospective families are strongly encouraged to meet the
March deadline to provide the best opportunity for acceptance. Completed
applications received after March are considered in our second round of
admissions for any remaining spaces.
A vital step in the process is a visit to Hilton College in order
to meet with the Headmaster and to have a personal tour of the school.
This is an opportunity for families to see the school for themselves and
to get a first-hand "feel" for for the place and its people. Please
contact the Marketing Department to arrange this: Maralyn Atkins can be
contacted on +27 33 383 0100 or on
hc@hiltoncollege.com
In order for us to get to know each applicant as well as possible prior
to his arrival, we require a number of documents. The first is a
copy of his two most recent reports. Then there is the
Independent Evaluation Form. This is a reference submitted by a
teacher whom the boy feels knows him well. The boy will request this of
the teacher. In addition, Hilton College will ask the Head of the boy’s
current school to complete a Head’s Confidential Report which is
a detailed assessment of the boy’s scholastic ability, involvement in
the school and character. This is kept strictly confidential between the
two schools. Academic ability, character and extramural ability
determine whether a boy will receive an offer of admission. Parents are
requested to submit the end of Grade 6 report early in the boy’s Grade 7
year.
Pupils applying for places in Grades 9 to 11 are not usually required to
sit the Entrance Test, but are assessed on the basis of their school
reports and the interview. The Independent Evaluation report and Head’s
Confidential Report may be required.
Hilton College has a significant enrolment of international students,
almost 1/5th. However, in addition to sound academic ability, fluency in
spoken and written English is a requirement.
Prospective Pupils’ Weekend
This is a fun-filled opportunity for boys in Grade 7 who have
applied and who are able to spend a weekend in one of our historic
boarding houses. It is a chance to have a taste of boarding life and to
make new friends. Parents will have an opportunity to learn more about
the school and to meet the staff, senior boys and fellow parents.
This year our Prospective Pupils’ Weekend will be held on the 12th
and 13th of April. Please contact Maralyn Atkins on
hc@hiltoncollege.com to secure
a place before the 31st March.
