OPEN WEEKEND FOR PROSPECTIVE PUPILS 2008 The Weekend of the 12th and 13th of April was a a great opportunity for boys intending to come to our College in 2009 to enjoy a taste of life in one of our historic boarding houses, learn more about Hilton and to make new friends. The weekend started with tea on the lawns in front of the school's central building, the Campbell Block.
While the parents attended a series of lectures and presentations, the fun commenced. The boys had an opportunity to practice with the 1st Rugby XV on Gilfillan Field where Hilton boys have played rugby since 1886.
The afternoon was spent taking part in a wide variety of fun events. Whether playing hockey with the 1st XI boys or trying their hand at Art, there was plenty to do and something for everyone. The programme allowed the Hilton staff to get to know each of the boys and for the boys to make new friends. Some tried mountain biking for the first time
There were big bangs aplenty in the Science labs
Crokker is an ingenious mixture of cricket and soccer that is surprisingly difficult to master
'Action' cricket
The wild adventure race at the pool tested much more than the boys' ability to swim.
The Art Department allowed the boys to show their creative sides and talents.
The 1st Hockey XI put the lads through their paces on the Astroturf.
On the Sunday morning a group of Hilton matrics ran for a question and answer session. They were able to answer a number of questions such as 'What time will I wake up? or 'Can I practice my saxophone in the evenings?'
Parents and boys then met in the Chapel for a brief service.
Before setting off on a hike down to the game reserve.
A few Matrics could not pass up the opportunity to climb Pinnacles.
And finally... a well deserved picnic lunch beside the Umngeni river
And while mum and dad chat, a chance to cool off and make new friends. A taste of how they will spend many weekends when they are at Hilton.
