"Let us be grateful to people who
make us happy; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls
blossom."
Marcel Proust
Dear Parents
It was yet another wonderful weekend in
the Midlands. The College is looking at its spectacular best at the
moment, and was once again a hive of activity. For many of our parents
it had the added bonus of allowing them to see their 'new boys' for the
first time since the start of term. I was so pleased to see how many
parents supported the Fleur-de-Lys Club, both during the day and after
all the sport in the evening. There was a great spirit in the club and I
was pleased to note how happy everyone seemed.
Our sports teams had a good weekend - it is always gratifying to note
how many of our boys participate each Saturday and have a great deal of
fun representing their school.
I would like to advise you that our Marketing Department is due to be
expanded with the addition of a Director of Marketing. We advertised
this position at the end of last year and have just completed the
interview process. We were fortunate to have many top quality applicants
apply for the position.
I can now announce that Mr Paul Guthrie has been appointed to this post
with effect from April 2008. Paul has served the school well over an
extended period of time and most recently he has been the Housemaster of
McKenzie House. Paul is an accomplished schoolmaster with an eye for
detail, strong interpersonal skills and, importantly, a vast
understanding of Hilton College. Paul will continue as Housemaster in
McKenzie until the end of this year. I know that Andy Wood, the
Marketing Manager, and Maralyn Atkins, the Marketing and Admissions
Secretary, will welcome Paul as the leader of their well established
department.
I look forward to seeing our New Boy Parents on Friday evening at the
club and meeting more parents each weekend. I hope that those of you who
are being affected by load shedding are able to retain some sense of
humour. We have been relatively unaffected at Hilton but have installed
a generator for emergency back-up and await some final finishes to this.
Please be reminded that your son should have a headlamp in his
possession so that he can carry on with his homework etc. in the House,
in the event of a power outage.
Kind regards
Dave Lovatt
