Headmaster's Newsletters 15 April 2008 Dear Parents The 1st rugby XV held the Hilton flag high at the St Stithian's Festival in Johannesburg. The 1st hockey XI attended the KES (King Edward the 7th High School) Festival where they did very well indeed. The U16A hockey team attended the Nomads festival at Jeppe Boys High School, whilst the U14A hockey team competed in the Nomads Festival at Maritzburg College. The U15A rugby team travelled to the Independent Schools' festival at Woodridge College outside Port Elizabeth and the U14A rugby team took part in the Parktown festival in Johannesburg. The 1st golf team was very successful at the Dainfern College Golf Championship whilst a Hilton Youth team also performed well at the Affies tournament. Craig Andrew and Arthur Horne participated in the SA Boys' tournament in Durbanville and were knocked out in the third round. Craig was placed 50 out of 95 in the Ernie Els Invitational Tournament and he won the Kloof Junior Matchplay Championship. Arthur has been selected to represent the Swaziland National Mens' team. During the holidays the South African Debating and Public Speaking team travelled to Germany to compete in the World Public Speaking and Debating Championships. Of the 10 team members, 3 were from Hilton: David Shorten, Andrew Gilliam and Adam Duxbury. During the holidays Hilton College hosted the biennial ISASA Librarians' Conference. The theme was 'Crafting Readers and Learners' and there was an excellent turnout of librarians from South Africa and beyond our borders. This weekend we hosted the Open Weekend for Prospective Pupils. In addition to the staff the 1st rugby and 1st hockey squads as well as the choir joined us for the weekend to act as hosts. It was a very successful time. It is the way in which everyone works together as a team on an occasion such as this, and the pride that everyone takes in our school (boys and staff alike) that makes Hilton such a special place. My particular thanks go to the staff who accompanied these teams and arranged these events and activities. Now that the not-so-quiet holidays are
over I am sure that the term will be a busy and exciting one. |
