Farming Activities
Forestry is a major farming activity on the
estate and accounts for a large proportion of the total farm income. Gum
(eucalyptus) trees are grown for pulpwood and wattle trees are grown mainly
for their bark and pulpwood. The gum is steadily being phased out and
replaced with wattle, as this is more profitable. The plantations cover
about 320 hectares of the land stretching from Beacons to the top of the
Gwens stream.
Pastures around the Farm Dams are leased out and they carry a small beef
herd. 150ha of arable land are also leased out and maize is grown.
