During the week after half term, Hilton College life was enriched with the visit of two wonderful teams. Xavier Moran (Scripture Union Independent Schools) and two SUIS trendsetters joined up with Berin Gilfillan (Old Boy 1979, living now in the USA), Chad Daniel and their team with the YouthBytes ministry (see www.youthbytes.org). This united team took the Chapel services and Chaplain’s classes for the week and offered voluntary meetings each evening. A Christian Rally on Friday night with visitors from neighbouring schools was a highlight. One of the unique aspects of this Christian Focus Week was that there was filming taking place on many occasions. YouthBytes is a ministry providing visual resources for churches and schools to use. During this week two sets of material were taken for programmes: one on Conservation and one using the sport Rugby to consider the teamwork necessary for a vision to be realised. We will get copies of these when they are finalised, but on the Sunday night Chapel, the boys were shown some short extracts of what was filmed and enjoyed a good laugh at themselves.

The theme for the week was “Determining Destiny” and all of us were challenged at many levels to reflect on our own destiny and the role Jesus Christ has to play. The week was fun and the team built up an excellent rapport with the school community. Opportunities were given for boys to make responses of commitment and many chose to make use of these. We were blessed this week and now have the challenge to build on the many foundations that have been established.
