WINTER SPORT 2008

We are enjoying a very satisfactory Winter season which again reflects the remarkable depth in our sport, particularly at Open level.

In rugby, the 1st XV has had a great year, losing only cruelly, and by the narrowest of margins, to Michaelhouse, and, under quite similar circumstances to College and St Albans.  Their three victories over Parktown, St Stithians and Boland Landbou at the Easter Festival were memorable, and it was good to beat Kearsney this term.

The depth of our rugby becomes apparent when you look at the Open division.  In the first eight weeks of the season, and excluding College, the 2nd to the 7th teams have won all their games in a series of fixtures against Northwood, St Charles’, Michaelhouse, DHS, Kearsney, George Campbell, Hillcrest and St Alban’s.  Across the board we have won 103 games and lost 55.  Encouraging are the U14 results where the A’s have won 6 of their 8 games, and the age group recorded 23 wins and 7 losses!

A similar picture emerges on the hockey turf.  The 1st have had a great run, winning 13 of their 18 games, with 1 draw and 4 losses.  Three of the losses were recent and they have shown signs of picking things up for a strong finish to the season with the 9 -1 victory over St Alban’s!  Again the Open hockey teams have fared well, recording a total of 17 wins, 6 losses and 4 draws.
