Assembly Guest
Speaker: Mike
Wilkinson The guest speaker on Wednesday the 27th of February was an attorney from the village. He addressed the issue of 'binge' drinking especially in the teen scene. His was a very brave tale which involved his own harrowing trip through excessive alcohol intake culminating virtually at death's door as his organs began their final shut down. Miraculously and with the assistance of both the divine and a friend he was able, after many years of struggle and hardship, to join the realms of humanity again. It was a brave speech, and few would have gone away thinking they were impervious to the devastating effects of excessive and careless drinking. He compared alcohol to a loaded shotgun: both are potentially lethal but, if used with care, can enhance one's life. It was a sombre reminder of the evils and perils of excessive drinking especially in the mid to late teen period. |
